This sheer cut-and-sew top is crafted from Jean Paul Gaultier’s signature power net fabric. The lightweight, highly stretchable mesh fits closely to the body, creating the effect of imagery appearing directly on the skin. Built through a trompe-l’œil approach, the graphic combines Western religious iconography on the front, including Jesus- and Madonna-like imagery, with Japanese tattoo-inspired motifs on the sleeves such as dragons and skulls. By merging symbols from different visual cultures into one body, the piece captures the tension between sacredness and decadence, elegance and rebellion—an aesthetic deeply rooted in Jean Paul Gaultier’s archive. A strong standalone piece, while also highly effective for layering.
